Managing concerns from parents and carers

"Help parents and carers understand how pupils will be supported through this difficult topic"

It is good practice to let parents and carers know in advance when you are planning to introduce the topic of death and grief. This should include the rationale for starting these honest conversations, information about the topic, guidance for talking to young people about death and grief and a request for information about any bereavements the pupil may have experienced which might affect them in the session. Reassure parents and carers that the subject will be managed sensitively and that support will be available to all pupils, particularly those who have experienced a bereavement.
